Algeria national team coach Vladimir Petković has agreed in principle to extend his contract, with the new deal expected to be signed in the coming weeks, according to official statements. The announcement was confirmed Saturday by Algerian Football Federation (FAF) president Walid Sadi.
Petković, who took charge of the national team in February 2024 following the departure of Djamel Belmadi, is currently under contract until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His extension signals continuity for Algeria as it prepares for upcoming international competitions.
Speaking to the media, Sadi stated that the Swiss coach had already given his approval for the extension. The FAF has since drafted a new agreement and forwarded it to Petković’s legal representative. “In principle, we have agreed on all the details; all that remains is the signature,” Sadi said, adding that the process should be finalized shortly.
Petković’s tenure has been described by officials as delivering “acceptable results,” as Algeria looks to stabilize its performances after recent fluctuations. His experience at the international level is seen as a key asset for rebuilding consistency within the squad known as “Les Verts.”
