Algeria’s Meteorological Service has issued a storm warning as thunderstorms with significant rainfall continue across multiple northern provinces this Monday.
A special bulletin confirms two active alert zones, with accumulations expected to reach or exceed 50 mm in some areas before the weather system clears.
The first alert covers the provinces of Tissemsilt, Mostaganem, Chlef, and Relizane, where rainfall of 20 mm to 40 mm — locally exceeding 50 mm — is forecast until 3:00 p.m. Monday. A second, more severe band of precipitation is expected to persist overnight, with totals of 30 mm to 50 mm and potential local peaks above 70 mm continuing until 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Algeria Storm Warning Extends to Algiers and Surrounding Provinces
The overnight alert affects a wider corridor of the north, including the capital. The nine provinces under this second bulletin are Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Blida, Médéa, Bouira, and Aïn Defla. Residents and travellers in these areas are advised to monitor updates from the national meteorological service.
Authorities have not yet issued evacuation orders, but the scale of the bulletin — covering thirteen provinces in total — signals one of the more significant weather events of the season. The Meteorological Service is expected to issue updated bulletins as the system develops through Tuesday morning.
