Education authorities across Algeria have intensified Algeria BEM exam preparations as the country approaches the Middle School Diploma (BEM) and high school graduation exams, introducing new organizational measures to ensure smooth supervision and staffing at exam centers.
According to official correspondence dated March 13, the departments responsible for schooling and examinations have instructed school principals across primary, middle, and secondary education levels to begin implementing several preparatory procedures.
These measures aim to anticipate staffing needs, prevent last-minute shortages of exam supervisors, and improve the logistical organization of the national tests, which involve thousands of students and teachers across the country each year.
One of the first steps involves the registration of teachers’ requests for exemption from proctoring duties during the official exam period. School principals have been instructed to process these requests through dedicated digital applications provided by the education sector.
Authorities say the system is designed to allow timely review of exemption applications and to arrange replacements where necessary. By managing the process early, education officials hope to avoid unexpected disruptions or shortages of proctors during the exams.
Several operational measures are also planned to guarantee proper supervision. Education authorities intend to appoint substitute proctors at each exam center to deal with potential absences or emergencies during the exam sessions.
In addition, primary school teachers may be mobilized to assist with supervision if required, in accordance with current educational regulations. Officials believe this measure will provide additional flexibility to ensure that exam centers remain fully staffed throughout the testing period.
School principals have also been instructed to ensure that all supporting documents related to exemption requests are uploaded through the digital platforms. In particular, medical certificates justifying exemption requests must be submitted online before Thursday, March 19.
The deadline has been set to allow authorities sufficient time to verify the applications and finalize staffing arrangements before the start of the exam sessions.
Education authorities have clarified that exemptions from supervision will be granted only in three specific situations.
The first applies to teachers currently on maternity leave whose return to work is scheduled after June 1. The second concerns teachers who are expected to begin maternity leave, provided they submit a medical certificate or official confirmation of pregnancy.
The third situation involves teachers on sick leave whose return to work is also scheduled after June 1. Officials emphasized that maternity or sick leave ending before this date will not qualify teachers for exemption from exam supervision duties.
Authorities stressed the importance of strictly applying these rules to avoid confusion and ensure fairness in the distribution of responsibilities among teaching staff.
Alongside these administrative procedures, school principals have also been instructed to update teachers’ municipalities of residence for the 2025–2026 school year. This information must also be entered through the official digital platforms before the March 19 deadline.
Officials say the updated data will help improve the allocation of exam supervisors and simplify the logistical planning required for the nationwide exams.
Finally, principals have been urged to exercise particular accuracy when compiling teacher lists. Each entry must clearly indicate the teacher’s full name, assigned school, subject taught, and municipality of residence.
The lists must then be validated by the signatures of the teachers concerned, ensuring that all information is accurate and officially confirmed before the exam supervision assignments are finalized.
Authorities believe these measures will strengthen the organization of national exams and contribute to the smooth conduct of this year’s BEM and baccalaureate sessions.
