The National Agency for Railway Investment Studies and Monitoring (Agence nationale des études et suivi de réalisation des investissements ferroviaires - Anesrif) has launched an update of the technical study for a 355 km railroad line project, designed to link the three access points to the wilaya of El Oued.

The primary goal of the project is to link the northern, western, and eastern access points to the wilaya as part of a strategic plan to integrate the southern regions into the rail network. This integration will facilitate the transportation of goods and products from the region's agricultural and industrial sectors.

Emphasizing the urgency of completing the study update, the wali highlighted the importance of promptly submitting it to obtain the necessary funding for the project. He also underscored the positive impacts of the railway line on both passenger and freight transport, as well as its role in reducing road accidents and preserving road infrastructure.

The Anesrif representative outlined the planned rail routes: the first will connect the north of the wilaya to Still commune over 142 km, passing through El Hamraya, Reguiba, and Guemmar. The second route will link El Oued to Touggourt over 108 km, via Miyeh-Ouensa, Oued El Allenda, and El Oued. The third route will connect the wilaya to Tébessa over 105 km. These routes will converge near the Kouinine industrial zone, close to the town of El Oued.

The project is considered crucial for the sustainable development of transportation in the region, enhancing ground transportation efficiency and fostering local economic growth.
