The Stellantis group's Fiat plant in Oran, Algeria, continues to make impressive strides, achieving a notable daily output of 350 vehicles. This milestone was revealed during the launch of the new Doblo, a "Made in Algeria" model, on October 3 at the Tafraoui facility. The event, attended by Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production Ali Aoun, highlights the growing impact of local vehicle production.
Priced at 2.89 million DZD ($21.7k), the Doblo is equipped with a 90 hp Peugeot HDI diesel engine, offering both performance and reliability. Samir Cherfan, Stellantis' Operations Director for the MENA region, emphasized the vehicle’s alignment with Algeria’s mobility needs, blending modernity and cutting-edge technology.
Cherfan also outlined the plant’s broader ambitions. Beyond its current production levels, Stellantis aims to produce 90,000 vehicles annually by 2026, with a 35% local integration rate, underscoring its commitment to fostering local talent and industrial growth. With over 1,000 jobs created, the Tafraoui plant is not only boosting Algeria’s automotive sector but also contributing to sustainable economic development.
Opened in December 2023, the Oran plant initially projected an annual production capacity of 60,000 vehicles, with plans to expand to 90,000 in future phases. The facility, currently focused on three Fiat models, launched its first assembled vehicle, the Fiat 500 hybrid, in March 2024.
With strong support from local partners and the government, Stellantis is positioning itself as a key player in Algeria’s automotive future, driving job creation, technological advancement, and industry growth.
