ALGIERS - On Wednesday in Algiers, the Sonatrach group and Tosyali iron steel industry Algérie signed a memorandum of understanding that will enable the two parties to jointly conduct a feasibility study for the production of green hydrogen from renewable energies in Algeria.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding, signed at Sonatrach headquarters in the presence of Group CEO Rachid Hachichi and Fuat Tosyali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyali Iron Steel Industry Algérie SPA, “the green hydrogen produced will be used to manufacture ‘green steel’ at the Tosyali steel complex, one of the leaders in the steel industry”.
The signing of this memorandum of understanding “is fully in line with the national hydrogen strategy, which aims in particular to reduce natural gas consumption and, consequently, cut greenhouse gas emissions”, emphasizes Sonatrach.
This partnership “will send out a strong signal in terms of the substitution of fossil fuels by green hydrogen in Algerian industry”, adds the same source.
