ALGIERS-The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, performed the Eid El-Fitr prayer at Djamaâ El-Djazaïr in Mohammadia (Algiers) on Wednesday morning in an atmosphere of piety and serenity.
High-ranking state officials, members of the government and representatives of the Arab and Muslim diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria, as well as numerous faithful, also performed the Eid prayer in this religious and civilizational edifice.
In his two sermons, the Imam of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, Sheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini, highlighted the virtues of Islam and the purpose of fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan, praying to Almighty Allah to reward the Muslim ummah for good deeds, prayers and devotion.
Stressing the importance of Eid El Fitr, which crowns the month of fasting, prayers and actions of solidarity and mutual aid between the children of the ummah, he called for this occasion to be seized as an opportunity to learn lessons.
Sheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini also encouraged benevolence, moral elevation, the strengthening of family ties, the reinforcement of affection and forgiveness between Muslims, and the praise of Allah for His graces, calling on the faithful to help each other in goodness and piety, to show uprightness and sincerity in all actions, and to work towards reconciliation and the unification of Muslims.
It is important, he added, to "build a conscious individual, who banishes extremism and fanaticism, rejects calls for division, respects law and order, and places the interest of the nation above all considerations".
He also spoke of Algeria's achievements, in particular Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, a religious and civilizational edifice that aims to be "a unifying mosque for the children of Algeria, and an impregnable bulwark for an authentic religious referent based on moderation and the just middle ground". Abdelmadjid Tebboune, thousands of worshippers, notably for the Tarawih prayer during Ramadhan.
The Imam of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr also stressed the need, on this day of Eid, to spare a thought for oppressed Muslims, citing in particular occupied Palestine and bruised Ghaza, where the whole world sees the images of martyrs, the wounded, orphans, widows and schools, mosques and hospitals destroyed along with their occupants, asserting that the crimes against humanity in Ghaza are without parallel in the history of mankind.
After the Eid prayer, the President of the Republic exchanged greetings with the President of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Salah Goudjil, the President of the National People's Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Omar Belhadj, the Prime Minister, Mr. Nadir Larbaoui, the Chief of Staff of the National People's Army (ANP), Army General Saïd Chanegriha, the Director of Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Nadir Larbaoui. Nadir Larbaoui, the Chief of Staff of the National People's Army (ANP), Army General Saïd Chanegriha, the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Boualem Boualem, the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Abdallah Moundji, as well as members of the Government and advisors to the President of the Republic.
The President of the Republic also exchanged greetings with representatives of the Muslim diplomatic corps.
