Minister of Sports Walid Sadi has outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat corruption across the sports sector in cooperation with Algeria’s higher authorities. Speaking to MPs during a session at the National People's Assembly (NPA) on Thursday, Sadi emphasized his ministry's commitment to safeguarding public funds and promoting integrity in sports management.
Sadi revealed that the ministry conducts annual inspections through its inspectorate and collaborates with the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention, and Combating Corruption. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the legal framework of the sports sector to align with the principles of accountability and integrity.
Legal Reforms and Governance
In his address, Sadi detailed progress on two draft executive decrees aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency. The first decree, which defines financing modalities and monitoring mechanisms for sports organizations, has been approved by the ministerial committee and is slated for submission to the General Secretariat of the Government in early 2025. The second decree focuses on criteria for funding physical and sports activities to ensure transparency and accountability.
Financial Oversight and Cost Reduction
Sadi underscored the ministry's efforts to address financial mismanagement within sports clubs. On November 28, a coordination meeting with representatives of clubs owned by public companies led to the creation of a roadmap aimed at reducing public spending burdens by the 2025-2026 football season. Clubs were urged to adhere to strict budgetary guidelines.
Investments in Youth Development
The minister also announced an ambitious investment plan to promote youth development. Starting January 2025, clubs will establish academies for young athletes and adopt a unified model for professional club organization. The initiative is set to elevate the structural and professional standards of Algerian sports.
This multi-faceted strategy reflects the government’s dedication to fostering a transparent, accountable, and thriving sports environment in Algeria.
