French Minister Accuses Algeria of “Humiliation” Amid Deportation Dispute Over Influencer

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau

Algerian authorities have refused to accept the deportation of Algerian influencer Boualem Nouman, known as "Dualmen," sparking anger from French officials who view the move as a diplomatic affront.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau criticized Algeria’s decision, calling it an attempt to “humiliate France” and urging a reassessment of bilateral relations. He expressed concern over Algeria’s handling of the matter, labeling it a “dangerous stage” in relations between the two countries. Retello also highlighted the detention of Algerian-French writer Boualem Sansal in Algeria, further fueling tensions.

The controversy began after French authorities deported Boualem Nouman for allegedly publishing violent threats on TikTok. French media reported that Algeria refused to receive him, citing non-compliance with legal deportation procedures. Consequently, Air France returned Nouman to French territory.

Nouman, a 59-year-old influencer, was arrested in Montpellier after the video surfaced, leading to the revocation of his residence permit. Prosecutor Fabrice Belargont confirmed that the video included a “call to violence,” justifying his deportation. Nouman’s lawyer claimed the decision was administrative and questioned the process.

The incident marks a significant strain in Algerian-French relations, highlighting underlying tensions and sparking calls for diplomatic reevaluation. The unfolding situation raises questions about the legal and political frameworks governing deportation and bilateral agreements.
