EU Parliament’s Hypocrisy: Hafid Derradji Critiques Boualem Sansal’s Case

Algerian football commentator and political activist, Hafid Derradji, has strongly criticized the European Parliament for its stance on Boualem Sansal, an Algerian author facing legal issues. Derradji accuses the parliament of hypocrisy, pointing to contradictions in its approach to human rights and selective advocacy.

Derradji’s remarks focus on the EU Parliament’s condemnation of human rights violations in Algeria, particularly its call for the release of Sansal. He highlights the irony of the parliament members who supported the resolution, many of whom are involved in corruption scandals, including bribery and sexual harassment. According to Derradji, these members are unfit to lecture on human rights, ethics, or values.

In a Facebook post, Derradji criticized the EU lawmaker’s silence on human rights violations in Gaza, where the population faces oppression. He argues that their lack of action shows a selective approach to human rights, neglecting the suffering in Palestine and other Arab and African nations. Derradji also points to France’s influence in Algeria, claiming that France’s attempts to sway the EU Parliament against Algeria are misguided, asserting that Sansal should face legal proceedings in his own country.

Derradji’s comments raise questions about the European Union’s credibility in promoting human rights. His critique underscores the inconsistency and selective application of the EU’s values, especially when it comes to issues that don’t align with its political interests.
