APTIV to Build Automotive Cable Manufacturing Plant in Algeria, Signaling Industrial Shift

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Algeria’s Minister of Industry, Sifi Ghrieb, met with representatives from the global technology company APTIV at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers to discuss a major partnership project to produce automotive electrical wiring harnesses locally.

The project involves establishing a state-of-the-art plant in Algeria to manufacture vehicle electrical cables—critical components in automotive assembly—in collaboration with a local industrial partner. This initiative is part of Algeria’s broader strategy to revitalize its industrial base and reduce reliance on imports, particularly in the automotive sector.

During the meeting, APTIV, renowned for its cutting-edge automotive connectivity solutions, presented a detailed overview of the project. The new plant aims not only to cater to domestic market demands but also to position Algeria as a future exporter of high-value automotive components.

Minister Ghrieb underlined that this endeavor aligns with the government’s goal of fostering a competitive, progressive industrial sector. Key priorities include sustainable production scaling, enhancing export potential, and developing a robust local supply chain. Additionally, the project seeks to promote technology transfer and upskill Algerian workers, contributing to long-term economic development.

Notably, the presence of a Stellantis Algérie representative signals broader industry interest and hints at potential future collaborations within Algeria’s growing automotive ecosystem.

The APTIV investment marks a pivotal moment in Algeria’s industrial trajectory, reflecting a shift from dependency to domestic innovation and production. With job creation, skills development, and export opportunities on the horizon, this project may redefine Algeria’s role in the global automotive industry.
