ALGIERS – The Minister of Industry, Mr. Sifi Gharib, along with the Minister Delegate in charge of Pharmaceutical Production, Mr. Fouad Hadji, held a meeting with the heads of the Saidal Group and the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products (ANPP) to discuss ways of strengthening the role of the public group in the pharmaceutical market, particularly through potential restructuring.
The meeting explored the possibility of reorganizing and restructuring the Saidal Group to ensure optimal management and better alignment with the needs of the national market. This would also involve modernizing management resources, potentially by partnering with start-ups to handle certain areas, according to a Ministry press release.
Part of a broader initiative to evaluate the performance of industrial groups and regulatory bodies, the meeting included a presentation on Saidal's drug production and the role of the ANPP in overseeing the sector.
Key discussions focused on the production and market of pharmaceutical products in Algeria, the regulatory mechanisms in place to govern the market, and the processes for controlling, certifying, and ensuring compliance with product standards.
The meeting highlighted Saidal Group’s contribution to achieving self-sufficiency in medicine production, both in terms of volume and the variety of medicines produced. Ongoing projects to diversify and expand production were also discussed, with the aim of capturing a larger market share in the coming years.
Regarding the supply of raw materials for pharmaceutical production, Mr. Ghrieb emphasized the need to diversify supply sources to avoid stock shortages and production disruptions, according to the same source.
The Minister also issued instructions to increase production volume and diversify the types of medicines produced, aligning with the guidelines set by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These efforts aim to achieve full self-sufficiency in medicine production, with a focus on accelerating the completion of planned projects.
In addition, Mr. Hadji stressed the importance of Saidal Group regaining its position in the Algerian market by accelerating project completions and intensifying efforts, according to the press release.
Other key instructions from the meeting included the creation of a technology cluster for pharmaceutical products and the establishment of a network for certifying conformity and qualifying pharmaceutical equipment.
The meeting also underscored the need to enhance the role of the Agence nationale des produits pharmaceutiques (ANPP), which is responsible for the registration of pharmaceutical products, approval of medical devices, and quality control.
