Algeria Inaugurates First Microchip Design Plant in Baba Hassen

Minister Kamel Baddari at the CDTA center in Baba Hassen

On Monday, Kamel Baddari, Algeria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated a microchip design plant in Baba Hassen, Algiers. The facility, under the Centre de Développement des Technologies Avancées (CDTA), represents a significant step towards innovation-driven economic growth.

This initiative aligns with the Sectoral Action Plan (2024-2029), inspired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision to integrate universities into Algeria’s innovative economy. The plant is set to produce its first electronic chip in March 2025, utilizing advanced technologies like 65-nanometer design.

Baddari emphasized the plant’s role in mastering electronic chip design and manufacturing. Additionally, he highlighted the nearby incubator, which aims to foster 25 startups specializing in advanced technologies, including fire detectors and mud zone detectors for dams, bolstering Algeria's technological ecosystem.
