On Tuesday, Noureddine Yassa, Algeria's Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of renewable energies, met with Katrine From Høyer, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Algeria. The two discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, focusing on modern exploitation methods, capacity building, and investment in wind and green hydrogen energy. On Wednesday, the President of the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN), Brahim Boughali, also met with Hoyer to discuss mutual cooperation in various sectors, including energy and diplomacy.
In the first meeting, Yassa and From Høyer highlighted the potential for increased collaboration in renewable energy, with Denmark expressing interest in investing in Algeria’s energy sector, particularly in wind energy and hydrogen. The Danish ambassador noted the possibility of utilizing Danish expertise in energy efficiency and green hydrogen technology. Yassa welcomed the Danish proposals and discussed Algeria’s recent reforms to encourage foreign investment in the sector.
In a separate meeting on Wednesday, Boughali met with From Høyer to discuss opportunities for parliamentary collaboration and mutual cooperation. Boughali expressed his satisfaction with the long-standing relations between Algeria and Denmark, emphasizing a shared commitment to global peace and stability. He condemned the recent incident involving the burning of the Quran in Denmark, stressing Algeria’s commitment to religious tolerance and peace. The APN president also reiterated Algeria's opposition to the European Parliament’s resolution concerning Algeria, calling for respect for official communication channels between the Algerian and European Parliaments.
From Høyer, in turn, reaffirmed Denmark’s desire to deepen bilateral ties, particularly through enhanced parliamentary cooperation. She assured that Denmark’s stance did not align with the recent incident involving the Quran and expressed Denmark’s support for Algeria’s position on the Sahrawi issue. Additionally, she highlighted the Danish government's interest in fostering investment in Algeria, facilitated by the country’s favorable laws and incentives for entrepreneurs.
Regarding parliamentary relations, the ambassador announced plans for a visit by a delegation from Denmark’s European Affairs Committee to Algeria next April to strengthen communication channels between the two countries' parliaments.
Both meetings underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening Algeria-Denmark relations, whether through energy cooperation, investments, or diplomatic dialogue. The discussions reflect the ongoing efforts of both nations to foster sustainable development, peace, and economic growth.
