Ayoub Wahabi, AJET Algeria Managing Director

AJet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, inaugurated its Istanbul-Algiers route on January 6, 2025, promising affordable fares and enhancing competition in Algeria's air market.

AJet's first flight, operated with a Boeing 737-800, departed from Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen Airport and landed at Algiers' Houari Boumediene International Airport, greeted by a ceremonial water salute. The launch was celebrated with an official event hosted by SGSIA and attended by dignitaries, including the Turkish ambassador and Algiers airport officials, highlighting the route's strategic importance for Algerian-Turkish relations.

Affordable Fares

AJet is targeting families, students, and business travelers with competitive pricing. For January, one-way tickets from Istanbul to Algiers start at €134.90 in Basic class and €157.27 in EcoJet class, which includes baggage allowances. Flights from Algiers to Istanbul begin at €142.24 in Basic and €164.61 in EcoJet. Round-trip fares for the summer season are set to start at €325.88, catering to the high demand from Algerian and Turkish travelers. AJet plans to operate five weekly flights on this route.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The launch is a part of a strategic partnership between Algeria and Turkey, facilitated by Algeria's new investment law aimed at attracting foreign businesses. Algiers Airport officials highlighted the project's significance for improving connectivity, boosting tourism, and fostering economic ties between the two nations.

Market Impact

AJet's entry introduces much-needed competition to the Algerian airline market, historically dominated by established players like Air Algérie. Its presence could drive innovation, lower costs, and improve service quality, benefiting travelers.

Future Prospects

AJet's launch aligns with Algeria's vision to transform Algiers Airport into a regional air transport hub. The airline’s success could inspire other foreign carriers to enter the market, enhancing Algeria's role as a gateway between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

AJet’s debut on the Algerian market brings fresh opportunities for travelers, boosts economic collaboration between Algeria and Turkey, and sets the stage for significant growth in the country’s aviation sector.
