Algeria has called for reform of the global justice system during the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Turkey, as international crises continue to intensify. Speaking at the forum, Ibrahim Bougali stressed the urgent need to rebuild trust and strengthen fairness in global governance.
Addressing delegates, Bougali said the world is currently experiencing a complex phase marked by overlapping and escalating crises. He noted that the international system, originally established after World War II on principles of dialogue and human dignity, is now facing mounting pressure. Among the key challenges he highlighted were the rise in armed conflicts, declining confidence in international institutions, and the rapid pace of technological change, according to remarks delivered at the assembly.
Bougali emphasized that Algeria sees the need to redefine the concept of global security so that it better reflects the needs and well-being of people, rather than focusing solely on state-level concerns. He argued that the core challenge is no longer limited to managing crises, but extends to restoring trust, reviving hope, and ensuring justice for both present and future generations. He added that achieving such justice requires consistent respect for international law, free from selectivity or double standards, warning that credibility of global institutions depends on this principle.
Referencing ongoing geopolitical tensions, Bougali pointed to the Palestinian issue as a major test of the international community’s credibility. He reaffirmed Algeria’s long-standing position in support of what it considers just causes, particularly the Palestinian cause, and called for the implementation of international resolutions. On broader regional developments, he welcomed recent ceasefire efforts in the Middle East, describing them as a positive step toward de-escalation, while stressing the need for a lasting and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, especially in Palestine and Lebanon.
Looking ahead, Bougali reiterated that Algeria’s diplomatic approach remains rooted in the values of solidarity, peace, and coexistence. He highlighted the country’s historical and cultural commitment to dialogue, drawing on symbolic references such as the legacy of Emir Abdelkader and the significance of recent high-profile visits that reflect Algeria’s openness to intercultural understanding. These principles, he suggested, will continue to guide Algeria’s role in promoting a more balanced and credible international system.
