Algeria is strengthening its export strategy by leveraging its diaspora, with Foreign Trade Minister Kamel Rezig meeting activist Fayçal Ouchène on Wednesday to highlight their growing role in promoting Algerian products abroad, according to an official statement.

The meeting underscores a broader national effort to integrate Algerians living in Europe into export promotion initiatives. Authorities recognize that many members of the diaspora are already actively showcasing Algerian goods—particularly through social media—helping improve their visibility and reputation in competitive international markets.

During the discussions, Rezig emphasized that these individual efforts represent a valuable extension of institutional strategies. He described the diaspora as a “strategic partner” capable of amplifying Algeria’s export ambitions, especially as the country seeks to diversify its economy beyond hydrocarbons. Official statements indicate that such grassroots promotion plays a growing role in positioning Algerian products in sectors like agri-food and manufacturing.

The minister also reiterated his department’s commitment to supporting initiatives led by influencers, entrepreneurs, and community figures abroad. By aligning these efforts with national export policies, authorities aim to create a more coordinated and effective promotional ecosystem. This approach reflects a shift toward combining digital outreach with formal trade strategies to reach new consumers and markets.

Fayçal Ouchène, known for his consistent online promotion of Algerian products, was praised for his contributions. His activities—ranging from social media campaigns to participation in economic events such as the National Cheese and Dairy Products Fair in Tizi Ouzou—have helped introduce European audiences to a diverse range of Algerian goods. He expressed appreciation for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing these efforts.

Ouchène also pointed to Algeria’s untapped potential in agriculture, agri-food industries, and product transformation sectors. His work reflects a broader trend among diaspora influencers who are using digital platforms to reshape perceptions of Algerian production and quality standards.

Looking ahead, authorities are seeking to build stronger synergies between public institutions and citizen-led initiatives abroad. This coordinated approach is expected to enhance Algeria’s competitiveness in European markets and expand opportunities for domestic producers. As the country advances its economic diversification agenda, diaspora-driven promotion is emerging as a key lever to increase exports and strengthen the global presence of Algerian products.
