Toyota delegation visits Tirsam factory in Batna

Automotive manufacturing facilities in Batna, Algeria, reflecting Tirsam's industrial activity and Toyota cooperation.

A Toyota delegation in Batna visited Algerian industrial group Tirsam’s factory on Wednesday, Oct 7, 2026, to examine its facilities and discuss projects being considered for the next stage of cooperation. Tirsam did not disclose the scope of the proposed projects or when they might begin.

The Japanese delegation toured the plant in the presence of Tirsam chief executive Samir Maala, according to Algerie Eco. The company said Toyota’s representatives reviewed its infrastructure and production capacity, and described them as having noted “the modernity of the group’s facilities and their full availability.”

Discussions covered “the projects we will carry out together during the next stage” and preparations for their launch, Tirsam said. The group framed the meeting as an opportunity to connect international expertise with what it called renewed national industrial ambition. It said it wants its partnerships to support Algerian industry, reinforce domestic capabilities and increase local integration.

The company did not identify any Toyota-related project, investment amount or schedule. The visit therefore signals continued cooperation discussions, while the concrete scope of any next steps remains unspecified in the source report.

Tirsam’s other industrial projects

The Toyota visit follows Tirsam’s work with Chinese truck manufacturer Sinotruk. In August, the Batna plant hosted a Sinotruk delegation led by chief executive Liu Zhengtao. The visit coincided with Tirsam producing its 3,000th heavy truck and the launch of a project for a new heavy-truck welding line.

Tirsam said the planned line would strengthen the plant’s technical capabilities and raise local integration, including through local subcontracting, technology transfer and skills training. Maala described the Sinotruk relationship as a step in developing both brands in Algeria, meeting transport and logistics needs, and potentially extending into regional markets and exports.

Liu said the partners’ shared vision was for the Tirsam factory to become one of Sinotruk Group’s largest facilities outside China. That remains an attributed projection from the company’s chief executive.

Tirsam has also opened orders for three bus models. The TS09 can carry up to 70 passengers, the TS11 has 51 seats, and the TS12 can accommodate up to 100 passengers. Algérie Eco reports that the models are being offered as part of the renewal of Algeria’s public transport fleet. Authorities plan a gradual withdrawal of passenger-transport vehicles aged 25 years or more.

The source report did not specify whether the Toyota discussions involve vehicle production, components or another area of cooperation. Tirsam’s next steps with Toyota will therefore depend on details that the company has yet to make public.
