The Djazagro 2026 trade fair opened on April 12 in Algiers, bringing together nearly 700 exhibitors from 28 countries, but without any Algerian minister in attendance. The absence of officials at this major agri-food event has raised questions among participants, according to local media reports.
Held at the Safex exhibition center in Pins Maritimes, Djazagro is one of the largest agri-food industry gatherings in North Africa. The 23rd edition features companies specializing in production equipment, processing technologies, and packaging solutions. Organizers highlighted the event as a key platform for industry professionals to exchange expertise and explore business opportunities in Algeria’s growing agri-food sector.
Despite this strong international turnout, the lack of official representation at the opening ceremony stood out. According to sources cited by local media, the absence of Algerian ministers may be linked to ongoing diplomatic tensions between Algiers and Paris, as the event is organized by the French company Promosalons. Relations between the two countries have remained strained since mid-2024, affecting several areas of cooperation.
Djazagro 2026 nonetheless saw the participation of around 150 companies and producers across various segments of the agri-food industry. Foreign exhibitors from countries including Italy, Turkey, China, and Germany were strongly represented, reflecting sustained international interest in Algeria’s market potential.
Organizers emphasized that the fair aims to foster networking and innovation. “Djazagro brings together and inspires agri-food stakeholders in Algeria and North Africa,” said event director Chantal de Lamotte in a previous statement. Over four days, the exhibition is expected to facilitate partnerships and showcase solutions for improving production efficiency and supply chains in the region.
The absence of government officials may highlight current diplomatic sensitivities, but the scale of participation underscores Algeria’s continued appeal as a strategic hub for agri-food investment and industrial development.
