Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb has overseen the inauguration of a unit producing plastic components and accessories for the automotive industry in Tissemsilt.
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb visited Tissemsilt on Thursday, September 24, to preside over the inauguration of General Plastic Injection, an automotive plastics unit, Ennahar Online reported. The visit was undertaken at the direction of Algeria’s president, according to the publication.
The facility is described as producing plastic components and accessories for vehicles. Ennahar did not provide figures for its production capacity, investment cost or expected employment.
Relaunching productive assets
Ennahar linked the visit to a presidential commitment to recover assets confiscated under final court judgments, restart them and return them to the national economy. The report did not set out the facility’s ownership history or specify when any related confiscation took place.
The project is intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing of automotive components, develop local supply chains and increase the share of locally made parts, according to the report. Reducing reliance on imports was also presented as an objective. No figures were given to measure those potential effects.
Ghrieb was accompanied by Interior, Local Authorities and Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud, Industry Minister Farid Kortel and Finance Minister Mohamed Lamine Lebbou. Kamel Moula, president of the Council of Economic Renewal, also joined the visit.
