Algeria’s market regulator announced the registration of two new Algiers Stock Exchange sponsors, Crédit Populaire d’Algérie (CPA) and Tel Markets, to support companies seeking to list their shares or bonds on the exchange under updated market regulations.
The Stock Exchange Regulation and Control Commission (COSOB) confirmed in a statement on Thursday that both financial intermediaries had been officially registered as sponsors on the Algiers Stock Exchange.
The registration follows the provisions of Regulation No. 23-04 dated October 25, 2023, which establishes the general regulatory framework governing operations and listings on the Algerian stock market.
According to the commission, the designation of sponsors is an important requirement for companies planning to enter the stock market, particularly those aiming to list securities in the growth or emerging segments of the Algiers Stock Exchange.
Under the current regulatory framework, any company seeking to list shares or bonds on these sections must appoint a stock exchange sponsor for a mandatory period of five years.
This sponsor acts as a key intermediary between the company and the market authorities during the listing process.
Their responsibilities include assisting companies throughout the issuance process, preparing the technical and regulatory documentation required for admission to trading, and ensuring that all procedures comply with existing legal and regulatory standards.
Sponsors also play an advisory role, helping companies understand their obligations as publicly listed entities and guiding them through disclosure, transparency, and governance requirements.
The appointment of sponsors is considered a key mechanism designed to improve the credibility and professionalism of companies entering the market, while also strengthening investor confidence.
By ensuring that firms meet all regulatory standards before and after listing, the system aims to support the development of Algeria’s capital markets and encourage more companies to consider financing through the stock exchange.
The registration of Crédit Populaire d’Algérie and Tel Markets as Algiers Stock Exchange sponsors reflects ongoing efforts by Algerian financial authorities to modernize the market infrastructure and promote broader participation in the country’s equity and bond markets.
Market observers say the measure could help facilitate new listings in the coming years, particularly as Algeria continues to promote financial diversification beyond traditional bank financing.
