The Algeria 1Tik social platform has reached a key milestone, surpassing 100,000 users just months after its launch in December, as the Presidency of the Republic officially joined the platform during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The Presidency shared its first posts on 1Tik during Eid al-Fitr, highlighting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s participation in prayers at the Great Mosque of Algiers and the official New Year’s greetings ceremony. This move marks a new step in the institution’s evolving digital communication strategy.
For several years, the presidency has maintained an active presence on major global platforms. Its official Facebook page has accumulated around 2.9 million followers, while President Tebboune’s account on X (formerly Twitter) has reached approximately 2.2 million followers.
The adoption of the Algeria 1Tik social platform signals a broader shift toward embracing emerging digital channels. It also reflects a strategic intention to support domestic technological initiatives and strengthen Algeria’s growing startup ecosystem.
Authorities appear keen to promote local innovation as part of a wider transition toward a knowledge-based economy. Encouraging the use of national platforms like 1Tik aligns with efforts to reduce reliance on foreign digital services while fostering homegrown solutions.
The platform has already been used by other prominent entities. In early February, mobile operator Mobilis used 1Tik to announce leadership changes at football club JS Kabylie, a move seen by observers as an effort to boost the platform’s visibility and credibility.
1Tik was launched by Algerian startup Intaj-Digital and is presented as the country’s first fully domestic social networking platform. It integrates features such as user interaction, entertainment, content creation, and digital marketing, built on modern technological standards.
The platform’s founder, Youcef Touileb, emphasized the importance of developing local alternatives, noting that Algeria has more than 28 million social media users. He argued that creating a platform tailored specifically to Algerian users is both necessary and strategic.
In less than three months, 1Tik has recorded over 100,000 downloads on the Google Play Store, reflecting early traction in a competitive market dominated by global tech giants.
The presidency’s presence on the platform could accelerate its adoption and encourage other institutions and users to follow suit. As Algeria continues to invest in digital transformation, initiatives like 1Tik may play a growing role in shaping the country’s online landscape.
